Middleton/Victor Harbor with The Ryans

After our month holiday road trippin' from Sydney to Airlie Beach and beyond, we come back to Adelaide only to go on another mini holiday with the Ryan's to one of their favorite spots, Victor Harbor. It was the whole family, Lynette, Ken, Daniel and Aaron. We stayed in a caravan park in Middleton, just a few minutes walking distance from one of the best surf spots around. We went into Victor Harbor and walked across the bridge to Granite Island where you can see crystal clear water of sea grass and fish. We also were lucky enough to catch the tail end of the State Finals Surf Competition and got some awesome photos of the coastline and a few soon-to-be pro surfers, well one of them anyway.

The WhitSunday Islands

There was no better ending to the road trip than boarding "The Clipper,"a 140 foot sailboat including 52 backpackers, a jacuzzi, and water slide. The Clipper sailed through the Whitsunday Islands and took us to various national parks and coral reef spots within the Great Barrier Reef to dive and snorkel. Whitehaven beach, Whitsundays most famous beach was one of the most stunning beaches I have ever been to with white sand and crystal clear waters. We met people from all over the world and shared a fantastic experience out at sea.

Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach was our last stop before we headed back to Adelaide. We spent three days here swimming in the lagoon, playing gin rummy (I beat Aaron every time!), and having cocktails:) The mix of people here was interesting due to Airlie beach being the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. Heaps of backpackers ranging from 18-35 and then heaps of old people coming from around the World Cruise ships.

Tin Can Bay

On our way to Bundaberg we stopped off in Tin Can Bay because we saw a highway sign saying you could feed the Dolphins, but unfortunately we were a little to late. Nonetheless, it was a pretty spot:)

Bundaberg

Bundaberg was one of the highlights of our trip. We went to the Mon Repos turtle hatching and it was incredible! Watching hundreds of tiny turtle pop their heads up through the sand and make their way to the ocean was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I will remember forever. Only one out of the thousands of tiny turtles that head to sea each year make it and always come back to the place they were born. Just amazing.

Hervey Bay

We spent the night in Hervey Bay at a pretty cool hostel and Azza made mexican (which I was in dire need of although mexican just isn't the same without tap) and then we went out to Susan Rivers ranch and went horseback riding out in the bush. It was a pretty incredible feeling to be on horseback with wild Kangaroo's hopping around but I must admit, I was a bit tense the whole time. My horse was named Champagne and was quite the princess. When we were crossing the river, I was last and she decided to jump so she didn't have to get her feet wet, almost bucking me off. Plus mozy season was in full effect and I was attacked by 1000's of them!

Noosa Heads

Noosa Heads was one of my favorite stops along the way. Much like Byron in the small beachy town sense but a bit more upscale, Noosa was a place I could easily spend a good amount of time at. We lucked out and stayed with a mate of Aaron's, Ed, who was currently living at a fabulous beach resort with bali style huts, pools, jaccuzzi's and a sauna. He was obsessed with surfing and introduced Aaron to the Alaia, one of the original Hawaiian timber surfboards. We ended up going to Tom Wegener's house who creates original Alaia boards and we were able to check out his shop and buy his DVD. It was awesome! Maroochydore

Maroochydore is the last place we spent with Kate and Lloyd. After a long day driving from Byron to Wet n' Wild on the Goldy, we arrived in Maroochydore just after a fresh rain and lucked out with a beautiful rainbow and sunset.

The Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is much like I would picture Miami - high rise buildings, massive malls and a pretty hectic party scene. I would say that Surfers Paradise is worth having a look and that's about it. The beach next to Surfers called Burleigh Heights is quite lovely though and Aaron and I enjoyed a few cold ones with a picturesque Gold Coast view in the distance. After a look around, we spent a lovely evening with Lance enjoying steak on the barbie. I woke up early the next day to an amazing pink sunrise overlooking the lagoon.

Byron Bay

Hmmm, what to say about Byron. Loved it. Byron is an awesome beachy town with lots of shopping and entertainment. There is a great lookout at the most eastern point in all of Australia with a massive lighthouse where we were able to get some great photos from. While Aaron had a surf, Kate, Lloyd and I hired bikes and explored. Then we hit the Beach bar for drinks at sunset which continued on into the night...
